MDC invites the Hispanic community to a special free fishing day Sept. 26 at Carondelet Park
St. LOUIS, Mo.—National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed Sept.15 through Oct. 15. It honors the history, culture, and contributions of Americans of Spanish, Mexican, Caribbean, Central American, and South American heritage.
To commemorate the month, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites all members of the Hispanic Community to a special fishing event Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carondelet Park in St. Louis. This is a free event for all ages happening at the Carondelet Boathouse Lake. Families are welcome.
“Fishing has the ability to bring families and neighbors together and strengthen relationships,” said MDC Naturalist Rebecca Rodriguez.
Registration is not required and the need for fishing permits will also be waived for the day for those attending this event. MDC will provide bait and fishing equipment, but participants are also welcome to bring their own. The event is open to all abilities, and MDC staff will be on hand to help beginners learn the basics of fishing.
“We will be there to help connect participants with information about fishing locations, permits, equipment, parks, conservation programs, and outdoor recreation opportunities that are available for free,” Rodriguez said.
Boathouse Lake is a public catch-and-keep lake stocked and managed by MDC, so participants can keep fish they catch within the daily possession and length limits of the lake. For complete details, go to http://short.mdc.mo.gov/oNz.
MDC will set up an educational touch table featuring mammal furs and engaging facts about common animals in the area. Free snow cones will be available for a limited time, too.
Carondelet Park is the City of St. Louis’ third largest park and is located at 3900 Holly Hills Drive.
